During the past six months the Burraton church in the Saltash circuit has experienced very encouraging growth and has received 10 new members, an increase of of 30 per cent. Just after the millennium the congregation recognised that the existing 19th century building was no longer sustainable. They decided to accept an approach from Methodist Homes and the site was developed to provide 23 flats for lease for older people, with a new church facility (worship centre, meeting rooms and kitchen) as part of this new building. The congregation moved into the new building in October last year and at the same time welcomed Rev Michael Goodland as an associate minister, financed through collaboration between the circuit and the congregation, to help the church develop its life in its new building. The growth cannot be attributed to spectacular events in the life of the church. Some people have just dropped in, others have found a new commitment to the life of the church and some have come to try out the church. The congregation that was 25-strong now regularly numbers 40. People on a nearby estate, though not themselves church-goers, requested that a cross should be fixed to the side of the church facing the estate.
The church is now looking forward to be able to serve the community around it, providing care and support for people and a community facility in a part of the town where there are few such facilities.
